Teaching & Promoting a Relationship with God through Horses, Adventure & Recreation
Shekinah Ranch is a concept/vision of Pastor Tom Ravasio. Having grown up in the Mon Valley of Pennsylvania, he realized that there was a great need for a place for young people and children to come where their lives would be connected to God through the use of horses, sports and recreation, a Godly environment and His presence. The camp has grown and developed many activities over the years that draw out the creativity, diverse interests, and adventurous spirit of every rancher.
We are a Christian Camp Ministry that utilizes horses, recreational, physical and spiritual activities for the purpose of connecting youth to God who offers them hope and vision for their future.
The word Shekinah (She-khi-nah) means "the place where God's glory dwells." Shekinah Ranch is a Christian based, non-profit camp welcoming children and youth of any faith and race. We encourage young lives to grow spiritually, mentally, socially, and physically in an exciting fun-filled, western adventure. The ranchers (campers) will be reminded regularly of God's love and His perfect plan for each of them.
Meet our Founder/Director
Tom Ravasio comes from a large family of eight brothers and sisters. Tom grew up with a passion for horses, which led him to work after school and on weekends at a ranch in his community. There he became an experienced rider and owned two of his own horses.
He left home at the age of 18 and moved to Florida to pursue a new life. Two years later Tom met a man who eventually earned his trust and led him to faith in Jesus Christ. That took place on July 4, 1982. A radical change was evident in Tom's life and he immediately began to serve the Lord through his local church and then with the missionary organization "Operation Mobilization" on their ship "LOGOS".
That missionary experience took him to over 24 countries through Central and South America, the Caribbean Islands, the Eastern Coast of the United States and Canada. It was during this two-year term that Tom met his wife Karen and they were married in December of 1986.
Tom then returned to Florida for ministry studies at the Florida based Trinity College of Florida. Tom earned a Bachelors Degree in Pastoral Ministries, graduating in 1991. Late in 1991 Tom began to sense the Lord leading him to return to the place where he grew up. He and his wife and first child returned to Monongahela, PA in July of 1992.
While at home, the Lord began to merge his childhood love for horses into a camp ministry calling. Shekinah Western Camp became a reality during the summer of 2002. He is also the author of the "LORD of the HORSES" book series which has captivated the imaginations of hundreds of youth and adults.
Tom and Karen have three daughters and three grandsons. The Ravasio family lives on a 20-acre farm where Tom enjoys caring for his horses and spending time with his family. He also serves as the Staff Counselor and Associate Pastor of Journey By Grace Free Methodist Church in Belle Vernon, PA.
